Gas Seals Theory (GS – THEO)

This two-day session combines classroom and hands-on maintenance courses. This course is designed to provide an understanding of how dry gas seals operate and to acquire the practical experience to correctly remove and replace the dry gas seal in a centrifugal compressor. The theoretical part will review the history, principle and main features of dry gas seals and the specificity of various dry gas seal brand names. It will also review the various installation details for each of these gas seals, including large compressors and small compressors. The course will include a detailed review of the main features and loop study on the dry gas supply piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID), as well as the conditioning skid P&ID. Practical activities will consist of removing and re-installing a dry gas seal using the special tools and verifying seal cavity dimensions at each step according to the installation drawing. A visit to a Dresser-Rand gas seal manufacturing and assembly workshop is also scheduled in this session.
