Dresser-Rand to Showcase Reliable Energy Solutions at POWER-GEN International 2013


HOUSTON, TEXAS – November 8, 2013 – Dresser-Rand, a global supplier of rotating equipment solutions to the oil, gas, petrochemical, power, and process industries, will showcase custom energy solutions at POWER-GEN International 2013 that are designed to help meet client productivity goals and improve the bottom-line.

Visitors of Dresser-Rand booth #311 will be introduced to a variety of advanced offerings designed for power generation, including Dresser-Rand steam turbine generator (TG) sets, Guascor® gas engines, compressed air energy storage (CAES) systems, Echogen Power Systems, Gimpel® valves, gas turbines, Dresser-Rand Turbine Technology Services, and Envision® condition monitoring software.

Dresser-Rand Steam Turbines Offer Option for Renewable Power Solutions
Used for a variety of markets and applications, including oil and gas, biomass, waste-to-energy, sugar refining, universities, medical centers, etc., Dresser-Rand custom-designed steam turbine generators include a wide range of capabilities and configurations to meet clients’ unique job-specific needs.

The steam turbine product line can provide economical and efficient generator drive solutions from 500-kWe single-stage units to 100-MW multi-stage equipment. By customizing each unit, clients can achieve higher operating efficiency (of up to four percent), lower maintenance costs and increase turbine reliability.

Customized steam turbine units are available as either direct-drive or geared and can accommodate inlet steam conditions up to 2,000 psig and 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit, with exhaust conditions from 800 pounds to condensing. Configurations can include condensing or non-condensing, single- or multi-valve, single- or double-automatic extraction, or induction mixedpressure designs.

Dresser-Rand Guascor® Gas Engines Capitalize on Energy Potential
Guascor® engines help Dresser-Rand clients optimize the energy potential of their facility by combining heating with on-site power production. By generating electricity on site and recovering heat that would typically be wasted in a conventional power plant, clients using Guascor engines experience increased energy efficiency and substantially reduced energy costs and carbon emissions.

Dresser-Rand combined heat and power (CHP) systems can be designed to accommodate a wide range of fuels, including natural gas, diesel, biogas, biodiesel, waste heat, hot water, waste steam, and biomass, and typically range from 100 kWe to 2.5 MWe. Larger capacities are available by incorporating multi-train systems.

Dresser Rand CAES Technologies Provide Flexible Solutions from a Single Source
Dresser-Rand is uniquely qualified to deliver total demand management and power generation to reduce project management time, and minimize transaction and transportation costs through its CAES solutions.

Each CAES train is custom-built to provide clients with systems designed specifically to meet each site’s operating and geologic requirements. By selecting and fine-tuning standard Dresser-Rand components for each project, Dresser-Rand can ensure that all components will work together to maximize efficiency, and reduce installation and start-up times. Systems can be configured for salt caverns, hard-rock caverns, aquifers, or depleted natural gas fields on land or sea. CAES facilities enable clients to optimize their base load units by minimizing load swings to maximize efficiency and extend unit life. Storing energy allows for use of off-peak power to meet peak demand. This is less expensive than using traditional gas turbine peaking units or purchasing power from other sources.

Echogen Systems Extract Power from Waste Heat-Type Exhaust Systems
Echogen technology is a new and innovative waste heat-to-energy solution using a CO2-based power cycle that generates emission-free electricity without burning fuel. The compact, packaged power system, with up to 50 MW capabilities, reduces overall cost of ownership with lower transportation and installation costs. The cycle can operate water-free, which is critical for many regions worldwide.

Dresser-Rand Gimpel® Shut-Down and Control Valve Technology
Dresser-Rand Gimpel® valves provide emergency shut-down and control steam turbine protection valves for the oil and gas industries, including trip, trip-throttle and non-return valves. Single- or multiple-control valves are available, depending on the turbine’s power output, as well as mechanical latch-type trip throttle valves and hydraulic-operated trip and trip throttle valves.

KG2-3G Gas Turbines Offer Efficiency and Meet Emissions Regulations
Dresser-Rand’s highly efficient KG2-3G gas turbine is designed to meet demanding emissions regulations, and is ideally suited for continuous or emergency stand-by power supply. KG2-3G gas turbines for power generation have a 99.3 percent start reliability, full-load throw-on capacity and minimal maintenance requirements. It is also available with a Gradual Oxidizer that can operate on a much lower quality gaseous fuel with fewer emissions when compared to those of a conventional turbine.

The KG2 generator set has been specifically designed to meet power requirements for power from 1 MW to 10 MW (single and multiple units). More than 900 units have been delivered for standby, industrial and oil and gas applications worldwide.

Dresser-Rand Envision® Software Provides More Control
Dresser-Rand Envision® Condition Monitoring software allows for process control and condition monitoring within a single computer platform. Unlike traditional systems that use separate control and monitoring displays, the Envision system combines these primary functions to allow for unprecedented insight into a unit’s performance and mechanical health. Engineers can monitor the performance of their turbomachinery equipment from a control room offsite and draw conclusions of an imbalance in the system through the data they receive, allowing them to act quickly to resolve mechanical issues and prevent mechanical failures before they occur.

With 49 service and support centers strategically located throughout the world, including Houston, Dresser-Rand’s dedicated service center staff is ready to provide responsive, reliable support for rotating equipment.
