PROFILE: Meet Dresser-Rand’s Resident
“Opportunity Solver”

WHEN ASKED TO DESCRIBE what aspects of his job he finds most rewarding, Glenn Grosso replies, “solving opportunities that arise, be they operational or application-related.” And when asked about the challenges he routinely faces in his job, he responds, “There are no challenges, only opportunities.”

Glenn’s 32 years with the company is certainly testament to this self-described “opportunity solver.”

Glenn’s career began with Ingersoll-Rand in 1978 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, as a project engineer with the AXI dry rotary-screw compressor team. Recalling those early years, he reveals, “The AXI team was so small, that I was also the product design engineer, the rotordynamics engineer, the materials engineer, the packaging engineer, the controls engineer, and the technical support engineer!”

After relocating to Olean in 1987, Glenn added I-R axial compressors to his duties. In 1991, he transitioned to the centrifugal compressor design team and it was with this assignment that he took on increasing responsibilities before eventually being named centrifugal products technology leader. In 2008, he undertook his current role as manager of centrifugal products technical support. His team primarily handles field issues (mechanical and performance) related to the operation of Dresser-Rand centrifugal compressor trains. Combined with a similar team in Le Havre, France, and a technical team in Houston, Texas, these three groups are responsible for all centrifugal compressor technical issues worldwide. Glenn also chairs the Olean Product Design Change Authorization Review Board, which oversees the design rule changes of all turbomachinery products and their support systems.
